Country of Origin: Norway Size: Height: 55 - 65 cm (21.5 to 25.5 inches); Weight: 40-60 pounds Coat: Thick undercoat with thick, dense covering hair. The outercoat is grey. There are usually cream patches on the nose, throat, legs, chest and tail. Character: This dog is straightforward, intelligent and cunning. Temperament: This dog gets along well with children, and any household pets. It gets along well with other dogs, although they may be frightened by its bark. The Norwegian Elkhound makes a sensible guard dog. Care: During shedding a coarse comb should be used to remove loose hairs. Training: This breed responds well to trainers who have natural authority and a calm and consistent manner. Activity: This breed would do okay in an apartment if given sufficient exercise. Fairly active indoors. Does best with large yard. Prefer cooler climates. Energetic dog. Loves strenuous activity. Needs at least an hour of exercise a day.
